After a tumultuous year Brooki Bakehouse owner Brooke Bellamy has announced she is planning to open 100 stores around the globe.

The announcement comes after the business secured a $25 million investment from Arada, a property developer that is co-owned by Saudi Prince Al Waleed bin Talal and Ahmed Al Qasimi – a member of the royal family in the emirate of Sharjah.

According to the Financial Review there are plans in place to open 30 stores across Australia by the end of next year – a move that will see Brooki Bakehouse expand outside of its home state of Queensland – and 100 stores globally by the end of 2028.

The first international store will be based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where Brooki has held a number of pop-ups in recent months.

“We started, initially in Australia, shipping freshly baked cookies around. Then, many people in the comments asked if we could have them in their country. So we started to ship them to New Zealand, and then to the United States, and now parts of Asia,” Brooke said to the Financial Review.

It is thought Arada’s initial investment will help fund Brooki’s official entry into the UAE, including establishing the flagship store in Dubai as well as expanded production capabilities to meet global demand. The investment also comes after Brooki Bakehouse allegedly received interest from more than six international investors and franchise groups, and the bakery is expected to seek more funding for an expansion into both the UK and Asia next year.

Brooke wouldn’t disclose the company’s valuation to the Financial Review, but she did say Arada’s funding represented a “sizeable stake but not majority”.

“This transaction with Brooki Bakehouse reflects Arada’s commitment to creating meaningful lifestyle experiences that connect people through culture, food and design, as well as our track record of investing in and expanding best-in-class Australian brands overseas,” Arada chief executive officer Ahmed Alkhoshaibi said.

“Our investment will enable Brooki to scale its reach into new markets, particularly in regions where Arada operates, including the UAE and the UK, while strengthening its base in Australia.”
