Boutique, Mediterranean-inspired bakery Martha’s has opened its doors in the inner-west Sydney suburb of Wareemba.
Owner Paris Nassif said the menu, which has been inspired by the flavours and spices the bakery team grew up with, was all about staying true to the baking teams’ roots.
“…also having fun with the classics that people know and love,” Paris said.
“With the bakery we wanted to create a place where people could slow down, savour something and feel that sense of renewal – a place to rise again each morning.”
On Martha’s shelves is a selection of both sweet and savoury creations. Classics like laminated croissants, cinnamon scrolls and custard tarts sit alongside twice-baked almond croissants infused with cardamom and rosewater, zaatar knots with tahini dipping sauce, an nduja eggplant and basil.
There are also treats like olive oil citrus cake, fudgey double chocolate brownies, and earl grey black sesame or brown butter choc chip with sea salt cookies, as well as a wide range of sandwiches.
Speaking with Broadsheet, Paris said Martha’s corner location had felt like it held potential.
“I just really loved this corner spot… I didn’t know these four streets existed as Wareemba,” she said.
“When we signed the lease I realised this was a different suburb. People are like, ‘Wareemba.. are you in the sticks?’.”
Paris worked with a pastry consultant to help refine the menu as well as the Martha’s baking team and, if the consumer response is anything to go by, has certainly hit the nail on the head.
“We’ve seen the same faces every day for the last two weeks,” Paris said.
“So that tells me we’re doing something right.”
