The South Australian town of Hahndorf is is no stranger to German bakeries, but Hanhdorf Brezelhaus is shaking things up.
The newly opened bakery and cafe has opened inside one of the town’s heritage cottages, which has been home to a number of businesses including a sweets shop, cobbler’s den and also a watchmaker’s home since it was built in the 1800s.
Hanhdorf Brezelhaus co-owner Olivia Duffield told Glam Adelaide that Hahndorf deserved a bakery that cleberated the town’s heritage.
“… while still feeling fresh, current and exciting,” she said.
“Building something the blends tradition with modern creativity felt like a natural evolution.
“Hahndorf has the history, the foot traffic and the demand, and it’s been crying out for a genuinely great German-style bakery.
‘The location, the heritage and the opportunity aligned perfectly, and the concept took on a life of its own from there.”
The Hahndorf Brezelhaus menu puts the spotlight on German goods, including pretzels and German Cheesecakes, which sit alongside freshly made sandwiches, rolls, baguettes, pies, pasties and sausage rolls.
“A must try is our freshly baked pretzels, made the traditional German way. They come warm from the oven, sprinkled with salt or seeds and served simply with butter,” Olivia said.
“Authentic, comforting and exactly the way they should be enjoyed.
“You also can’t go past our selection of German Cheesecakes, classic favourites that’s quickly becoming a crowd pleaser.”
