The Baking Industry Employers association of WA (BIEWA) has celebrated the best of the best at their recent Baking Industry Awards Gala Dinner.

Held in July, the awards night was themed ‘A Night in Paris’, and was a combination of entertainment, fine dining and an awards presentation.

BIEWA held their competition day back in May, with more than 400 individual entries coming from more than 36 bakery entries across West Australia making an appearance on the day.

BIEWA secretary Paula Van Styn said the judges and stewards had a very challenging job on the day, given the high standard of entries.

“It was encouraging to see new entrant bakeries who were successful in becoming a finalist in this year’s awards,” she said about the competition day.

“[On the awards night] guests were transported to France, complete with French mime acts, dancing, Little Miss Squeezebox accordion music, and Little Belle Band.”

The major awards went to:

• BIEWA Champion Loaf of the Year 2024: Woolworths Armadale for their Devon large white loaf
• BIEWA Champion Apprentice Exhibitor for 2024: Josh Noordwier, Denmark Bakery
• BIEWA Champion Bread Exhibition for 2024: Bakers Delight Kingsway
• AG Noonan Award – Baking Apprentice of the Year 2024: Dylan Gianatti
• Bakery of Choice “First Time Entrant 2024”: Bread Garage Co
